Yelp is one of those apps that many people have installed on Android or iOS so it makes sense to have it available on Windows 8. Except this isn’t really from Yelp.
I appreciate it when apps are brought to Windows 8 that the “owner” of that brand hasn’t seen fit to make one themselves. What I don’t appreciate is when an app is “phoned” in. This is NOT worth the download. It is just a tiny wrapper put around a browser window. I had intended to review this app but there is no need. Everything you can do here, you can do on the web. There is no reason to use the app. This probably didn’t take much time to put together, but since it is free I don’t see the point in creating it, no ads even for revenue. It doesn’t even bother to follow Modern UI guidelines in the least.
True it does integrate Search and Share capabilities which do go beyond generally what a browser will do on its own, but that doesn’t save it. I do wish though that the “fakes” didn’t use official logos, it makes it confusing for users (not realizing it isn’t official) and for the company itself to perhaps lose credibility. You are better off pinning the webpage to your start screen than bother with this app.
